Rachel was enamored with dog sports at a young age and jumped into agility training when she got her first dog Miley, a Coton de Tulear. When Rachel started competing with Miley in agility, she saw that Miley’s emotional state had a large impact on performance. Other competitors that would yell or physically correct their dogs for inaccurate performances often saw a decrease in their dog’s willingness to listen. This led Rachel to focus on reward-based training methods to incentivize her dog to complete complex tasks. Although Miley initially struggled with ring stress and focus issues, through training tricks and developing a stronger relationship, they were able to compete at high levels in agility.
Rachel got her second dog Cody, another Coton de Tulear, in 2014 and pursued training from the start. Cody knows over 100 tricks and loves to perform them! Additionally, Cody is currently ranked as the fastest Coton de Tulear competing in AKC agility and has two Master Agility Champion titles! Rachel’s third dog Middy, a border collie, is in the early years of her agility career, but is already competing at the highest levels in UKI and AKC. Cristiana Crespo handled Middy at the AKC 2024 Junior Agility Competition and they were the 20" Overall Winners! Rachel strives to grow the human and canine bond through teaching others about reward based training methods. Simultaneously, Rachel pursues learning about the up and coming scientifically proven, humane training methods in the ever-changing dog community.
